As an educated man who’s built a successful career advising small businesses, Edward King is quick to explain he learned the bulk of his business acumen while working as a carny.

And he has a roster of thousands of SBs in metro Detroit and bigger corporations that have gravitated to him for years to hear his no-nonsense pearls of wisdom.

King, 55, is director of the Small Business Services and Executive & Professional Development of Wayne State University’s School of Business Administration. He’s been teaching SB workshops there for more than 20 years. He’s also authored books including: “Running a PROFITable Small Business” and “Starting a PROFITable Small Business.”

King also conducts seminars here and across the nation.

Before joining WSU, he was a $1,500-a-day consulting manager at Price Waterhouse & Co. in Detroit, where his clients included Kmart, La-Z-Boy and the University of Michigan.
