Huge+ thanks to our sponsor who makes this show possible >> IncSlinger “You know your business better than most, that’s why everyone turns to you”

We had the pleasure of speaking with Postabon Co-founder & CTO, Shaneal Manek.  Shaneal did an excellent job explaining why Postabon is a Killerstartup and why they are poised to beat out their competition.  Shaneal says, “unsubsidized student loans really encourage frugality” which was the prime motivating factor in creating Postabon which, is a location based service that shares the best deals nearest your current location.  The service is only available in Manhattan at the moment but, the team plans on rolling out other cities in the coming months.  Postabon looks extremely clean and seems to work like a charm (so far.) Postabon has been featured in Mashable, VentureBeat, and NY magazine.

Rumor has it that Shaneal hacked into the Harvard database in order to ensure admission for his friends and teammates over at Postabon (this is our theory anyway). Congrats to the Postabon team, and we hope that your combined $2,000,000 in student loans will be paid in full fairly soon… or maybe just keep spending that money on beer, pizza, donuts, porn and other consumer goods! Whatever works!

Postabon specializes in saving you money by connecting you to discounts recommended by like-minded consumers in your area.

At Postabon we love the satisfaction of a great find – the one day 50%-off holiday sale at Bloomingdale’s, the open bar at Veranda, the manager at Pottery Barn who agrees to an extra 15% off… Too often we don’t hear about these deals at all; or worse, we find out after it’s too late.

That’s where we come in.

Our concept is simple: people upload and vote on in-store discount recommendations in your area. Each post — uploaded through our website, iPhone app, or mobile web app — takes about the same amount of time as a tweet. We encourage creativity and only ask that each discount is categorized as Eat, Shop, Entertain or Miscellaneous. Deal finders earn Karma points, vie for the top spots on our Karma Board and accrue a following of users interested in the recommendations they make.

The result is a comprehensive list of relevant, user-tested discounts happening at brick and mortar stores in your area right now. Finding a great deal is as easy as searching by category, proximity, rating or keyword. Our name is derived from the word “bon” – French for “good” – to signify the good deed of telling people about ways to save money.

The discount ideas you’ll find on our site are submitted by other users. You can help other people on the site by submitting your own discount ideas. Check out our three steps below or watch our video.

You spot something that catches your eye. It’s an open box discount at Best Buy, a free sample of yogurt at Pinkberry, or a $25 prix fixe at Gramercy Tavern. This isn’t one of those suspect “50% off suit sales” that has gone on since Don Draper invented the promotion. It’s something you would have wanted to know about if you hadn’t been in your current fortuitous position. Being the good person you are, you decide to tell others about your deal.

You pull up the Postabon iPhone app, or go to Postabon.com from your mobile phone or laptop. In the amount of time it would take you to send a text, tweet, or update your Facebook status, you’ve entered information on a deal that’s automatically geo-tagged and uploaded in real time to our platform.

Your good deed will help our community save time and money. That’s good Karma. We’ve questioned the legality of making guarantees about the impact of Karma on your life; so we decided to create user profiles, Karma scores, and a leader board.

Each time you post a deal, you’re rewarded with Karma points that push your profile onto our Karma Board. Users can compete for the best Karma by region and deal category each week. Like minded users can follow your profile and deals you’ve posted, thus allowing you to prove to your friends and family that your ideas are valued.
